Is the LTS good for tropical travel?

That's exactly its design brief - 5 lb, folds compactly, roughly half the weight of a heavy-duty BCD.

Is 30 lb of lift enough?

For an AL80 in warm water with a thin suit, comfortably. Heavy steel tanks or thick cold-water suits call for the HD-200.

Are the weights ditchable?

Yes - the integrated pockets quick-release, holding ~10 lb total. No rear trim pockets on this model.

Can I use a steel 100?

It's rated for AL80/steel 85. Larger cylinders may exceed the harness design load, and 30 lb of lift may not offset a heavy steel tank - use the HD-200 for that.
