Jacket BCD

The air cell wraps around your sides and chest and inflates around you like a vest.

Pros

Holds you upright and head-up at the surface
Plenty of pockets and integrated weight
Familiar fit for divers coming from rental gear

Trade-offs

Tends to tip you feet-down underwater
More drag and chest squeeze when inflated
Harder to hold flat trim

Reviews

Frequently Asked Questions?

Is the Atmos a jacket or back-inflate BCD?

It's Oceanic's hybrid - rear-inflation bladder for horizontal trim underwater, with air migrating through the hybrid cell so you float comfortably face-up at the surface like a jacket.

How much weight can I ditch in an emergency?

20 lb - both front Pinch & Release pockets are fully releasable. The 10 lb of rear trim is non-ditchable by design.

Does the Atmos work for women?

It's a unisex cut; Oceanic's dedicated women's model is the Hera. Smaller-framed divers usually do well in XS or S with the depth-compensating cummerbund.

Is this the same Atmos as the dive computer?

No - they just share the name. This is the BCD.
