Is This BCD Type Right for You?

Jacket BCD

The air cell wraps around your sides and chest and inflates around you like a vest.

Pros

  • Holds you upright and head-up at the surface
  • Plenty of pockets and integrated weight
  • Familiar fit for divers coming from rental gear

Trade-offs

  • Tends to tip you feet-down underwater
  • More drag and chest squeeze when inflated
  • Harder to hold flat trim

Best For

New divers, warm-water vacation divers, and anyone who values surface comfort and storage.

Reviews

Frequently Asked Questions?

Is the Hera back-inflate or jacket style?

A hybrid: the bladder inflates from the rear for horizontal trim underwater, but wraps your sides for jacket-like upright stability at the surface.

Is all 30 lb of integrated weight ditchable?

No - 20 lb in the front QLR4 pockets releases with a pull; the 10 lb of rear trim stays put. Keep primary ballast up front.

Will the Hera fit a taller woman?

Size L covers to 6'0" and 155-190 lb, and the A.P.S. track extends torso length independently of size.

Can I use it with a steel tank?

Yes - the universal cam band takes standard aluminum and steel singles. Re-check weighting when switching tank materials.
